Global Warming: Agricultures Role and Health Concerns

by Wandile Maseko

Because of global warming, temperatures obviously increase. This has some temporary benefits. For awhile, it will simply mean more time for crops to mature because of a longer growing season. This is especially true of regions where the spring and fall were once quite cool.

Higher temperatures can bring problems in other areas. In regions that are already warm, global warming will cause the plants to languish in the heat. Soil evaporation rates will be very high, leaving very dry earth. Add to that, droughts that will make both the soil and the air dry and might even lead to burning of some crops.

Right now, and in the near future, global warming does not seem to be a very dangerous situation for North American farmers. There might even be some positive effects. However, in the long run, nothing will be able to mitigate the damage that will be caused by global warming if it is not stopped.

Health concerns related to global warming

As global warming affects the environment, it should not be surprising that it affects the health of the people living in that environment. Changes in the climate are changes in the habitats not only for animals, but for people as well. Climate changes are already impacting people’s health.

There have also been heat waves in North America. One in 2006 claimed 226 lives. Another probable result of global warming is increased pollen in the air. This happens because higher levels of carbon dioxide encourage the growth of more pollen-producing weeds. Because more pollen means worse air quality, those with allergies and asthma suffer.

If all people knew how much global warming can affect their health, they might be more prone to working on a solution. Until then, those who understand the ramifications of global warming will have to work even harder.

How to Save Fuel Costs By Running Your Car or Truck on Water

by Jeff Sokol

This article looks at the claims of running your car on 100% water and tells you if it’s really possible or not.

When you look closely at such 100% water driven technology, one ends up spending even more than using the usual fossil fuels for powering vehicles or any other engine. Buying a new hybrid isn’t saving you anything right now!

So, the method I recommend for powering your car with water that will save you cost of fuel is to make your own low-cost hybrid car that will run on water and gas, thereby saving you huge costs you would have spent using only fossil fuels.

In other words - Hydrogen On Demand system where you safely run your car on Hydrogen WHEN you need it!

Note that I am not saying you should build a car from scratch that will run on water. Not at all. This instead is about constructing simple devices that will enable your car to operate on water as well as gas. You don’t have to alter your car make-up or get a new car. The technology can work with any car or truck.

In simple words, this technology involves putting together home-made devices that use a little electricity out of your car’s battery to separate water into a gas called HHO (2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen). HHO, also known as Brown’s Gas or Hydroxy, burns beautifully and by so doing provides TONS of energy.

And the most remarkable beauty is that this pound for pound HHO gas is even much more potent than gasoline. In fact 3 times more potent than gasoline. Which means that your fuel mileage is dramatically increased, and you get more horsepower to boot!

By using such cars you effectively save money that would have been spent on fuel for your car. It is estimated that this could save you as much as $897.40 per year. If you are two, three or four drivers in the family, this yearly savings increases dramatically. And what if you have a fleet of 50 drivers in your company? How much would you save by increasing YOUR fuel mileage by 50% or more??

First things first… this isn’t about running your car on 100% water. Of course there are information available about running your car on 100% water but I wouldn’t recommend them to the average Joe because they are not only complicated but seriously expensive and completely unpredictable.

7 Reasons You Want a “Water Powered Car”

by Jeff Sokol

No doubts about it, it’s now possible to power your car on water as well as gas, instead of 100% gas. Apart from the many advantages that this technology has on the environment, it also has plenty of widespread advantages to many people and businesses around the world, including YOU.

Below are 7 of these amazing advantages of the water for gas to YOU:

1- Improves your gas mileage by up to 70%. This includes both city and highway driving conditions. Imagine how much money this would save you at the end of the month and at the end of the year. It is estimated that this could save you as much as $897.40 per year. If you are two, three or four drivers in the family, this yearly savings increases dramatically. And what if you have a fleet of 50 drivers in your company? Then your yearly savings will multiply to $44,870. More if you have more drivers, how much will you save??

2- Eliminates harmful exhaust emission that pollute the environment and contribute to global warming. Your engine will ADD oxygen to the environment instead of polluting it. How about doing something good to help the environment for a change? Saving the planet takes an effort on everyone’s part!

3- Greatly increase engine power and performance. The more gas you use on your car, the more the engine gets battered- thus reducing it’s performance. But by using water (HHO Gas) as an alternative, this enhances your engine power instead and improves performance.

4- Remove excess carbon deposits and prevent carbon build up.

5- Reduce the operating temperature of the engine and waste heat into the environment.

6- You will notice a calmer, quieter and much smoother engine operation as well as smoother gearshifts. This is due to the great effect water has on the combustion cycle inside your engine.

7- Enjoy a much longer engine life, especially in the pistons, rings and valves.

These are just some of the many advantages of water for gas technology to YOU. Remember, even YOU can build the device needed to make this technology work for YOU, from the comfort of your home.

Intelligent Reporting is Better for the Environment

by Elizabeth Murphy

When a business manages their fleet, intelligent reporting is important for many different reasons ranging from cost-efficiency and convenience to how it impacts the environment. Everyone knows how motor vehicles have a negative impact on the environment, but by intelligently and accurately reporting data regarding fleet operations, the impact on the environment can be less severe while still operating the fleet in a manner that is convenient for the business.

The reports that a business should have in regards to managing their fleet are:

Fleet composition

Fleet exception reports

Vehicle maintenance reports

Vehicle maintenance schedules

Invoice analysis

Delivery information

Fuel analysis

All of these areas are areas that should be reported on when managing a fleet. How can these reports benefit the environment? Well, when a vehicle is having mechanical problems, its emissions can increase , which is very convenient for the business. By having proper vehicle maintenance reports and adhering to maintenance schedules the damages to the environment can be avoided.

Also, fuel analysis means that overuse of gasoline can be eliminated by using reports to figure out exactly why gasoline is being consumed too quickly. Once the cause is pinpointed, it can be eliminated. This results in less fuel usage and a cost-effective solution for the business to not have to spend so much money on fuel. This can also come into play as far as finding the best route to make a delivery, which is where delivery information reports can come in handy.

There are other items that can be covered through intelligent reporting such as the use of a GPS system to help drivers find the best routes. By finding the best routes to complete a delivery, a fleet management operator can actually reduce the number of vehicles on the road, which is another way in which the business can implement a cost-effective way of having a positive influence on the environment.

How to acquire intelligent reporting

There are a variety of fleet management software programs available on the market as well as companies capable of taking care of a business’s fleet management needs. If a business has the manpower, they can appoint a fleet operator in-house and utilize the benefits of a fleet management software program or enlist the services of a fleet management company to take care of all of their reporting and fleet management needs.

Sometimes enlisting the services of a fleet management company is the most cost-effective solution because your company may not want to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars per year for an employee who will be tasked with only managing the business’s fleet. Whether the business chooses to use fleet management software or the services of a fleet management company, the reports must be a regular function of that person, in or order to take care of our environment.

Through intelligent reporting, potential issues can be taken care of before they turn into larger issues, the business will notice that they will save money by analyzing these reports for cost-efficient methods to get the job done, and they will find that their efforts will have a positive influence on the environment. Intelligent reporting covers so many areas that it is important that any business that relies heavily upon their vehicle fleet should employ a fleet management system to get the job done in the most effective way possible.

do your foreign visits include a sporting adventure?

by Leroy Calstard

Are you looking to try something really different on your next vacation? If so then why not try a sporting adventure vacation?

Now a sporting adventure holiday is not for everyone, but it can be a unique and exciting option for those who are fit, healthy and looking for a thrill. So if you long to feel the wind in your hair, the fear of the unknown in your heart and maybe would even like to travel to benidorm, then I recommend that you take a sporting vacation.

Choosing Your Sporting Holiday

When it comes to choosing your next sporting vacation, there are a number of things that you need to keep in mind. For many people their idea of a sports holiday is to go and watch their favorite team playing abroad. This unfortunately is not what sports travel is and so if that is what you thought it would be, you probably aren’t going to like the real definition of sports travel.

Basically a sporting holiday is a holiday in which you take part in any number of sports. They are usually fairly extreme and they do take up a lot of your energy. Adventure sports such as kayaking, rafting, snowboarding, hot air ballooning and bungee jumping are all included in the term “Sports vacation”. So if this really is not your type of thing then you would be better off taking a relaxing beach holiday!

Keeping Safe on a Sports Adventure Holiday

The main question people have before they set off on a sporting vacation is “just how safe will I be?” It all basically depends upon the type of sport that you have chosen to do. With some sports there will always be an element of risk involved and that is why people choose to take part in them. Activities such as bungee jumping and snowboarding can be particularly dangerous, but there is safety precautions put into place to keep you as safe as possible.

No matter where you choose to go, there will always be people there to advise you on the correct safety practices. So if you want to go on a wildlife safari for example, there will be guides there to direct you and to keep you out of harm. If you want to go snowboarding there will be people there who can teach you how to do it properly. If you want to go bungee jumping, there is always somebody there to tell you how to do it properly and to fix you to the safety harnesses. So it doesn’t matter which adventure sport you choose to do, you will always be kept as safe as possible.

Overall visits that include adventure sporting are not always what you imagine them to be. So before you go out and book your next sporting holiday, ensure that you know exactly what it involves before you agree to it.

house flippers buy below local market value

by Peter Mason

There are plenty of TV programs today that focus on buying a house cheap, renovating it, and selling it for a profit. This industry, known to most as house flipping, is a way to make a quick bundle of cash for the investor taking on the project. Often, if you add up the total property value after work has been done and compare it to what was before, you will see that the house flipping is indeed an effective way to make money. It all depends on what shape the house is in and the type of work that needs to be done. If all goes as planned, the investors reap a quick profit.

When looking for potential houses to flip, it is important to take a look at why they are being sold in the first place. If one was to purchase a house that needed almost no work done, there would be no room for improvement. That house would not make a good profit. House flipping experts like to find a property that will take some amount of time and effort to renovate. At that point, the house will attract more potential buyers and sell for a nice sum.

The house to look out for is purchased far below its true value because it is unattractive and in need of some renovation. By making a lot of small repairs and improvements, it will ideally be ready to go back on the market in a month’s time. Only this time, it will look better on the inside and out and be snatched up quickly. If all goes as planned, the house flipper will have sold it before the first mortgage payment is even due. After paying off the bank, subtracting renovation costs and purchasing the neccesary equipment such as an air compressor, the flipper can enjoy the pile of money left over.

When you ask those who renovate for a living, they will tell you that house flippers do little more than superficial work to the homes they buy. The risk is that the home the flipper purchases will need more work than the initial inspection foretold. In that case, the time and expense involves escalates quickly. This lowers the profit of the venture significantly.

If a home has been foreclosed upon, it is a prime target for house flipping since it is frequently cheaper than a property being sold by an individual. Frequently, the price will be as much as forty percent below the local market value, in which case there is money to be made from even the smallest renovations.

Ideally, the money made from the first few houses funds the renovations of future flips. If the company is established, they can improve their turnaround time, saving money paid out in loans and interest. In time, this is excellent for the bottom line of flipping houses.

Renovations Can Make Dreams Come True

by Ken Morris

Buying a home is not as easy or inexpensive as it used to be years ago. In recent years, the cost of real estate has skyrocketed, making home ownership almost impossible. Many couples chose to try to build their own homes as a cheaper method of owning a home, doing a lot of the work themselves. This may be cheaper than buying a home, but is often a long process and very time-consuming. Because couples and families don’t always want to wait that long, many choose renovations as their choice to have the home of their dreams. A very popular choice of renovations is barn renovations. Although, the idea of a barn may not appeal to some, when the renovations are complete, the barn turns out to be the perfect place to call “home”. It can even be used as extra space outside your home. A renovated barn can be turned into a workshop where you can store your tools, air compressor, and supplies.

A typical barn of yesteryear has many great historical features, in addition to having a lot of space for living as well as other activities. The first thing that needs to be done is having the barn inspected. There are many laws today regarding building and renovating. These laws have to be followed to the letter in order to get the permits needed to begin and complete your barn renovations.

The most important spots of the barn are the floor and roof, or more specifically the foundation. If the foundation is not solid, you will have a lot of time and money invested to begin the restoration. If you are purchasing the barn, it’s a good idea to have the inspections done before you make the purchase. Many choose barns because of their sturdy construction and lasting foundations. Barns were built with mostly concrete, which helps them to remain solid for a long time. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you may want to give the floors, walls and roofing a good cleaning so you can determine if there are leaks or cracks.

Another important step in your barn renovations is checking the electrical and mechanical parts of the barn. A home needs to pass certain laws and codes to be allowed to be made livable. The same goes for a barn or any building if renovations are the intent. Although you may want to do as much of the work yourself as you possibly can, hire professionals to do the inspections so everything is done right. You don’t want to spend a lot of time and money renovating a home only to discover the hard way that you have electrical problems. Proper renovations start at the ground level and the inner walls and roof.

Last, but not least, know what you want to do with the barn before you begin. Barns are very large and you’ll have a lot of space for many rooms. Make yourself a blueprint of what you want for rooms as well as the sizes as well as hallways, etc. It will definitely be to your advantage to hire a contractor to draw you a professional blueprint of your plans. He will be able to include where electrical fixtures as well as heating and plumbing fixtures need to go.

Once you have the groundwork prepared for you, you can purchase your materials and get to work on your barn renovations. In no time at all, you’ll have the home of your dreams.

Green Homes Can Be Affordable - Heather’s Home Is Proof

by John Wyeth

I’m sure you’ve heard the argument that building an energy efficient, green home costs substantially more than a home constructed using traditional methods. Until fairly recently this was a true statement but builders specializing in green construction are now able to build efficient green homes that are approximately the same cost as standard constructed homes.

Built by Ferrier Custom Homes, Heather’s Home is an affordable, three bedroom, 2,000+ square foot home located near Ft. Worth, Texas. The home is incredibly energy efficient - Heather’s Home rates in the top one percent of high end Energy Star homes built today. For Heather, that will mean an average monthly heating and cooling bill in the $15 range. And when it comes to summers in Texas, that’s saying a lot.

The home was built under NAHB Green Home Building Guidelines and is the first home in the nation to be certified under the new, more stringent, American Lung Association’s Healthy Home guidelines. Heather’s home has been accepted into the Department of Energy’s Building America Program. It is the third home in the nation to receive LEED’s (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification and the first home in Texas to receive LEED certification. Heather’s Home was also awarded gold, the highest honor in the Energy Value Housing Awards, by the National Association of Home Builders, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Following are some of the high performance and green features that went into the construction of the home…

Passive Solar Design

Proper Shading of Doors and Windows

Solar Hot Water System

Non VOC Interior Finishes

Metal Roof

Non VOC Interior Finishes

Energy Star Windows, Doors, Lighting, Appliances

Non VOC Interior Finishes

Passive Solar Design

CFL and Fluorescent Lighting

Energy Star Windows, Doors, Lighting, Appliances

Solar Hot Water System

Proper Shading of Doors and Windows

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS)

Passive solar design principles are an integral piece of the overall efficiency of Heather’s Home. For Texas, this means minimizing sunlight exposure in the summer months and maximizing it in winter months. A reversed scenario would be typical of a high performance design for homes built in more northern climates.

Water is heated by solar panels on the roof. Heating hot water typically accounts for approximately thirty percent of a home’s utility bills. Solar systems that power an entire house can be expensive, however, solar hot water systems can be installed for as little as $3,000.

Ferrier Custom Homes uses a HERS (Home Energy Rating System) test to ensure quality control. Raters inspect and test the home during and after construction to verify that the home meets EPA’s strict guidelines for energy efficiency. The process includes a blower door test (to test the leakiness of the house), a duct blaster test (to test the leakiness of the duct system), and review of a thermal bypass checklist (inspection of common construction areas where air can flow through or around joints and insulation).

What’s interesting about Heather’s Home is that it’s economically pragmatic, but it looks good - it’s proof that a modern, green, high performance home can be affordable. It now seems clear that going forward, homes can be built green with little or no added cost. There is really no reason that more developers and builders aren’t building green - at least no good reason. So start spreading the word building green doesn’t have to cost more.

Solar And Wind Power Now Widely Available

by Jerry Blackburn

Many people are concentrating on developing renewable sources of energy to replace our need for fossil fuels. Even people that aren’t concerned about pollution want to stop using fossil fuels because supplies are limited and quickly running out. Using fossil fuels cannot last forever and it is slowly destroying the environment. Solar and wind power is completely clean and doesn’t cause any pollution. It also means we no longer have to rely on stocks of fossil fuels.

I’m sure everyone can work out exactly what solar and wind power do, they are fairly simple ideas. They harness the earth’s supply of natural energy (wind and sun) and convert it into electrical energy that can even run a commercial air compressor.

Although both wind and solar power have the same end result, the way they go about it is different. Solar power uses panels containing reflectors to capture the energy from the sun, this energy is then transferred to a generator which creates energy.

Wind power on the other hand works differently. The wind pushes round propellers, which turn turbines in order to generate electricity.

Advantages of Solar and Wind Power

There are a number of very good advantages to use solar and wind power. The benefit most people will be interested in is that it’s a completely free form of electricity. It is also completely renewable, and something we will never run out of (until the earth dies at least!) Both of these methods of generating power do not directly generate any pollution (although the production of the equipment probably will).

Solar panels only need minimum maintenance, in order to keep them in tip top condition. Wind power takes up a much smaller area on the land as they are mounted quite high, this means the land can be used for other purposes as well. Whereas with solar power it takes up lots of space. Wind turbines are used in developing countries that do not otherwise have power.

Disadvantages of Solar and Wind Power

Not everything about solar power is good, there are some distinct disadvantages. Wind and solar power are by no means perfect. Wind turbines are very noisy, and many people think that they spoil the look of the natural country side. Solar power and solar heating cannot generate power at night because they need sunlight. If you are using solar power you need additional sources of power in order to supplement this power.

Solar and wind power will drastically change the look of the natural area. Solar power captures power in DC, in order for this to be used with many electrical appliances it must first be converted into AC power.

Actually the benefits of solar and wind power often outweigh the benefits. They are going to grow in popularity over the next fifty years due to the earth’s natural resources running out. By developing these technologies we can ensure we have a bright future ahead of us all!

Walking Expensively

by Ken Morris

While many people have gone back to their roots and have embraced things like bamboo flooring for their homes, bamboo flooring offers many different challenges which people should be well aware of. If they feel like bamboo is really where it is at and they feel a kinship with the floor type they should be aware of a number of different challenges for people who have this type of floor so that they are not caught out without all the facts in their corner.

Advice for the Jungle Heart

Many people state the best floor is made from bamboo because they feel like it is a more natural alternative to the wood flooring which is stained and not very environmentally sound. However the advice that would be most prudent for any family or for people who are going to be living in an urban area, or even a suburban area where normal activity is going to take place is that bamboo flooring may not be the smartest idea. Just due to the fact that bamboo flooring can easily get worn out, is not nearly as permanent as other types of flooring such as stained wood or tile linoleum, is not as easy to fix or replace as other types of flooring, and it can run you a pretty penny more than many people may expect.

Walking Expensively

While many people may think that they can get something of a deal on bamboo flooring, they would be mistaken. Bamboo flooring needs to be brought in from a foreign country and so just shipping it in here is going to cost you more on that one front. But then you need to consider the fact that not too many people are trained in installing bamboo flooring. So you need to get a professional installation done so that it will be most advantageous to your home and calling in a specialist to do something as routine as flooring can begin to separate your anticipated expense from the actual expenditures which could put you out of the running.

In the end your flooring is totally up to you and the only advice to anybody can really give you is to go with what you want to do in the first place. Your home is your palace so if bamboo flooring is what you’re interested in or if you would rather walk across hot coals it doesn’t really matter so long as you are the one who is happy and you were the one who will be paying for it no matter how expensive it may be.
