GERD–Acid Reflux Secrets

The secrets of acid reflux GERD will be revealed here. Listen. Many people from all walks of life suffer from the persistent pain of acid reflux–GERD. It is a worldwide scourge and if not treated early, more severe conditions can take place. The lucky ones will have very mild cases of acid reflex from time to time. This disorder also is prevalent among pregnant women.

Wrong way Corrigan was the infamous pilot who flew to Ireland when he meant to fly to California from New York. That is what acid reflux disease does. Your food is supposed to fly from your mouth to your stomach. But with acid relux disease it goes the wrong way, up your stomach into you food pipe and mouth. It has a big technical name which we will skip for the moment and use its acronym - GERD.

GERD Causes

Many foods have been blamed as the cause of acid reflux diseas or GERD. Some of these foods are: * Garlic * Onions * Alcohol * Spicy foods * Fatty foods * Caffeine All these and more have been linked to acid reflux or GERD

If you take medication and food is forced back up your food pipe, that is not what is supposed to happen so you should be careful in the selection of medications.

There are some causes to acid reflux Gerd that feature changes inside the body. This comes about during pregnancy and even diabetics seem to have greater incidents of acid reflux gerd. Patients that have put on large quantities of weight are also run a risk for acid reflux gerd. This can naturally have something to do with diet that might also be a danger element for acid reflux gerd.

Some forms of acid reflux or GERD are caused by a hernia. The hernia drives up stomach acid into the food pipe or espohagus. It is very painful and debilitating and may require surgery to correct the hernia which should cure the acid reflux or GERD in many who have successful operations.

Relief From Acid Reflux or GERD

If you find that you are suffering from acid reflux during the night and it is preventing you from sleeping here is something that may bring some relief. Try using a new pillows to raise you head up above your stomach. This may keep the stomach acid from refluxing up your food pipe or esophagus.

If you find that over-the-counter medications do not prevent the pains and sicomfort of acid reflux, then it is time to ask your doctor for help. Your doctor will diagnose your condition and offer presciptions medications that may mediate the pain and reduce the symptoms of acid reflux.

In some cases, a diet change can alleaviate the pain and symptoms of acid reflux. It may take a while for this diet change to kick in and offer relief. Be patient and stick with it.

When over-the-counter medications are not solving your acid reflux problems, then it is time to see a physician. A physician can prescibe some medications that are more powerful than the over-the-counter meds and will carefully supervise whether they reduc the pain and symptoms of the acid reflux condition.
