Lego Star Wars History

by Amy Nutt

Lego Star Wars has quite the interesting history when it comes to the fact that the game entertains children everywhere. It all stems from the popular plastic building blocks that can be used to build cars, space ships, buildings, and whatever a child’s imagination can think up. Anyone under the age of 60 has most likely played with Legos, so that means that many of the children playing with them today have grandparents who once used their imaginations to do the same exact thing.

The Lego saga began in 1932 in Billund, Denmark, where a carpenter by the name of Ole Kirk Kristiansen began a new business that made wooden toys, stepladders, and ironing boards. What no one realized at that time was that Legos had been born.

It was in 1934 that Kristiansen created the name Lego, which is derived from “leg godt,” which are the Danish words for “play well.” However, in Latin, the word Lego means “I put together.” Unfortunately in 1942, the plant burned down and Kristiansen had to rebuild, but just two years later, Kristiansen’s plant purchased an injection molding machine that created plastic toys, but he was yet to invent the building blocks.

It was in 1949 that the Automatic Binding Brick was introduced for sale only in Denmark and looked like a tiny plastic brick with eight or four studs. However, by 1950 the Lego accounted for half of the company’s business. From then on, the Lego began spreading around the world and through the years had developed various themes such as sets that focused just on building cars or on just building buildings. The possibilities were endless.

However, the Legos of today are much different than the Legos both we and our parents played with. Our children are playing with Lego theme parks, there are Lego themed movies, and there are even Lego themed video games that are based off of particular toy lines created by Lego. One of those toy lines is Lego Star Wars, which later led to the Lego Star Wars video game.

The video game was first released in 2005 and is based during the prequel trilogy to the actual Star Wars Trilogy that began in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. However, the game was actually released a month before the last of the Star Wars films was released.

It was developed by LucasArts and Eidos Interactive for the Sony PlayStation2, the Microsoft Xbox, and for personal computers running the Microsoft Windows Operating System. It was also developed for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. In August 2005, A Mac port was developed for the game to be played on Mac computers and in October 2005, a version was released for the Nintendo GameCube.

Lego Star Wars received the Kidsworld.com award of Game of the Year and received very good reviews. In May 2005, it even peaked at the top of the charts in the UK to eventually lose its prominent spot to the Episode III game that was later released. However, its position as a top game for kids remained high for quite some time.

In September 2006, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy was released and a year later was followed by a prequel game released in November 2007 called, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Some deem the Lego Star Wars video games as the coolest games in history and they consistently receive ratings between 4 and 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars on many gaming websites. The games are great for children and are a great way for the Lego legacy to live on through the electronic world.

Even A Pre-Owned Car Is Still New, At Least To You

by Juble

In this world today, at least in this country, only the extremely wealthy can afford a brand new, straight from the dealer’s showroom floor new car. For the rest of us, our price range falls quite a bit lower. So, we shop for our new car not in the dealerships, but online or in the newspaper classifieds. However, there are important things to be aware of before you start shopping, and other things to consider before you make your purchase.

How much car do you need? First on the list, is what size car you need, will this be a family car, or only for one or two people? You don’t need a big car if you’re only going to use this car for getting back and forth to work, or if you are a single person. Bigger cars cost more, use more gas, and cost more to maintain. You should also take into account the environment in which you live. If you live in a rural area or one where the weather has severe impact on road conditions, buying a car not equipped for such conditions is not a good idea. On the other hand, if you live in a city, you really don’t need a car built to withstand rugged terrain.

How much car can you afford? Price of your new used car is not the only cost consideration. There is also maintenance, fuel, and insurance, each of these will eat into your budget, perhaps only with tiny bites, but together all those little bites will hurt. There are ways that you can reduce the rates you pay for insurance, if you are, or are guardian to a minor, who has good grades, many insurance company’s offer discounts called “good student deductions”, or something similar. Also, there are other rate reductions for having a safe driving record, or owning a car that exceeds the standard safety regulations. Be sure to look into this, shop as carefully for your car insurance as you shop for your new used car. Maintaining the condition of the car, and keeping the gas tank full are major concerns that are a little less easy to control. It sure seems as if the price of gas goes up every day, so you might want to consider if it is possible to only drive the car when necessary. If it is only a few minutes to the grocery store and you only need a few items, walk. Walking is not only cheaper, but it is better for you, and the environment. When your car needs work done, find a reputable service station, and don’t let the mechanic intimidate you into paying for repairs that you don’t need. If you have cause to be unsure, it is perfectly reasonable for you to get a second opinion. An easy way to avoid high maintenance costs later on is to have someone who knows automotive mechanics take a look at your new used car, before you buy it. If the seller objects to this, it is probably because the car needs work or has problems that were not disclosed to you.

If you shop carefully for your new used car, you should come away with a vehicle that is affordable, economical, and pleasing. Take your time; know what you need, and what you are paying for. Even though the car was owned before, it is still new to you, and you deserve the best new used car you can afford.

How To Lose Five Pounds Every Week Using Calorie Shifting

by Tristan Bucknell

There is a revolutionary new program called the calorie shifting diet which many people are currently using to quickly lose five pounds or more every week with minimum effort. Unlike other diet plans, it uses a different approach to losing weight by varying what type of food you eat without counting calories.

The main advantage of the calorie shifting diet is that it has been designed to make your metabolism faster and therefore provide fast and continuous weight loss. This program will help you continue to lose weight every week because your metabolism will keep running at high speed.

This is different from most other diet plans which allow your body to gradually become used to the regime and this causes your metabolism to slow down over time. A slower metabolism will make it difficult to keep losing weight which is why so many people actually regain the weight which they originally lost and even more.

So how does the calorie shifting diet actually work?

The calorie shifting diet works by constantly changing what you eat in order to trick your metabolism so that it thinks you are not dieting when you really are which keeps it burning fat quickly. The problem with other diets is that your body gets used to the regime and gradually slows down which reduces the weight loss but calorie shifting keeps it at full speed.

So what results can you expect from the calorie shifting diet?

Most people who use the calorie shifting diet manage to lose at least two pounds every week on a continuous basis but some people achieve even better results of double or even triple this amount. Although exercise is not required as part of the calorie shifting diet, you can lose weight even faster if you combine it with some cardio and aerobic exercises regularly (or even just walking on a regular basis).

The calorie shifting diet is perfect for people who have a slow metabolism, want to lose weight quickly with minimum effort, have little or no time to exercise regularly, and have tried other diet plans but failed. The great thing about this diet is that you don’t have to count calories which can be very tedious and time consuming.

Be Careful when Buying Designer Jewelry

by Rob Carlton

Most people would understand the frustration of ordering something only to find out that you’ve got something that’s not as good as you imagined. With the internet it’s even easier than before to order something that’s completely different to what you wanted. Jewelry can quite easily be copied and imitated.

Designer jewelry can be very expensive, imitation jewelry can be designed to imitate this and is quite cheap. It could also be sold as fake jewelry, in other words pretending to be something that it’s not. You must be careful when buying jewelry, otherwise you could end up buying something that isn’t worth as much as you’ve paid.

Beware when buying

Everybody is out to make money, it’s important to be aware of what you are buying and be careful. This is especially important when shopping for jewelry, you must be careful not to buy junk. You should be careful that you don’t get conned into spending hundreds of dollars on something that is useless. You’ve worked too hard to earn your money just to let it slip through your fingers on expensive products.

You should not simply assume that just because the shop has been established for a number of years that they don’t sell fake products. You should carefully inspect the pieces of jewelry to make sure that they have hallmarks on them. Buying from brand name stores can be a good way to ensure that everything is ok.

You should check the company name with the Better Business Bureau, this will help you avoid any scams. You should spend time checking otherwise you could end up spending lots of money on fake jewelry.

Checking the business credentials is especially important when shopping online. When you shop online it’s even more risky than shopping at shops. You may struggle to return any products you buy from the internet, plus as you can’t see the product it’s easier to get conned. You could well end up finding that a piece of jewelry that you think is gold is actually made from base metals and plastic. If you are buying from an auction website then you should be extremely careful.

The trouble is that if jewelry becomes popular and in fashion there is more temptation to copy and imitate expensive jewelry. This makes it more difficult to find genuine jewelry.

Hybrid Vehicles, Driving the World into a Better Tomorrow

by Juble

It seems as if it were only yesterday, that this was just was a visionary concept. Automobiles that would not cause so much damage to the environment. Vehicles that would not be so expensive to drive. Cars that would use alternative energy to accomplish these dreams. However, dreams do come true, and these types of cars have been on the roads for several years already. The first successful hybrid vehicle introduced to the United States became available in 2000. Since then, as the cost of driving traditional automobiles goes ever higher, the value of hybrid vehicles also goes higher, while the purchase price lowers considerably.

Hybrid automobiles still use gasoline as the main fuel source, to run much smaller, more efficient engines, with electric motors or batteries used to power the vehicle as well.

Incredibly, the batteries recharge while the engine is running, so the hybrid vehicles are able to vastly improve the mile per gallon of gasoline ratio that is utilized. During these years of remarkably high gasoline prices, this feature alone inspires the high purchase rate of hybrid vehicles. Increased and improved safety standards and features incorporated in modern hybrids offer additional incentive as well.

The future is now, and these are a few of the cars of the future. The Ford Escape Hybrid Electric is a sport utility vehicle that offers an awe inspiring 40 mpg. It does this by using an electric motor for city driving, and a gasoline engine for highway driving. When the vehicle is stopped, the gasoline engine shuts down, and is started again by the batteries.Another sport utility vehicle that is also offered as a hybrid is the Lexus RX 400h. While the Lexus is a luxury SUV, it gives quite a few awesome features for the money you pay. Implementing an electric motor in combination with a gasoline engine, you’ll be able to achieve 30 mpg during city driving, and 28 mpg while on the highway.Hybrid vehicles in the standard to mid-size market are being led by the Honda Civic This powerful hybrid is leading the pack with an outstanding performance of 68 miles per gallon for highway driving. When accelerating, or climbing hills, the car is powered by the electric motor, and the primary running source is the 4-cylinder engine. The energy expended during forward momentum is harnessed and the batteries in this vehicle are recharged by a regenerative braking system. The Toyota Prius is another innovative hybrid vehicle. This economically and environmentally sound car combines an efficient gas engine, with an electric motor that powers the car while driving at slow speeds. When you are driving in the city or on the highway, the engine is powered by both the engine and the motor, while recharging the batteries. The Toyota Prius is not far behind the Honda Civic, with an impressive average of 52 mpg.

The future looks brighter every day. Every one of the major automobile manufacturers, both in the USA, and abroad have either already introduced a hybrid, or have one in the works. And every day, additional improvements are being envisioned and implemented.

Tips That Will Tell You That Your Car Is In Trouble

by Juble

It is easy to know that you could have a car problem if there are leaks underneath your car, or smoke coming from your car that is not normal exhaust. Noises that you’ve never heard before, or don’t ever want to hear again are also good indicators of worrisome troubles under the hood. However, if your vehicle is giving you a more exciting or interesting ride than you are accustomed to, for instance : shaky, bumpy, rocky, or even a mild vibration is felt, then you should be aware of the possible problems that could cause these growing difficulties.

Any one of the following symptoms is a good reason for you to have your car taken in for service, or at least looked at by a person with an aptitude for automotive mechanics.

-> Bad brakes - The complications might be from worn out brake pads, or cables, or only a matter of being low on brake fluid.-> The light in your instrument panel indicating “brake trouble” is on.-> When you apply the brakes, the car pulls to one side.-> The brake pedal sinks to the floor when you depress it.-> Any type of noise is heard when you use the brakes.

-> Engine emergency - Any one of these issues could indicate a problem more serious than a minor nuisance.-> The engine light is on in your instrument panel.-> It is difficult to start the car.-> When idling, stopping, or turning, the vehicle stutters, or sounds rough.-> Trouble accelerating.-> The engine will not shut off.-> You seem to be using more gas, or oil.

-> Steering situation - Could be caused by a wheel alignment problem, or worn out steering components such as the ball joint, or the idler.-> When driving straight, the car wants to wander.-> The vehicle tends to pull to one side or the other.

-> Transmission trouble - Likely causes for these symptoms might be faulty components, or only a hose that became disconnected.-> Shifting gears is difficult, or the gear slips too easily.-> The car does not respond at all when you shift.-> The gears slip when you accelerate, the engine speeds up, but the car does not.

-> Ride and handling hazards - Quite a few concerns are covered by that one little phrase.-> Shock absorbers that are worn out can cause dangerous loss of control when taking corners.-> Damaged suspension components such as the springs cause undue wear on the tires.-> Tires that are not properly inflated can wear out the steering or suspension.-> Worn out springs caused by carrying too much weight in the vehicle.

Some of these issues are only a minor inconvenience, at first. Eventually, and inevitably however, the slight imperfection turns into a major malfunction. It is easier and less costly to repair a problem when it is first noticed. The longer the damage goes unchecked, the worse it gets.

Monthly Automotive Maintenance Part 7

by Juble

Maintaining the health and well-being of your vehicle between regular recommended tune-ups is up to you. The manufacturers and the designers of your car, created the best possible automobile for your needs, with the belief that you depend on your vehicle, which you do. In return for providing you with safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation, your car only asks in return to be taken care of and treated with respect. This means that you need to keep an eye and an ear open for any problems or concerns that arise with any and all of the gadgets, thingies, and doo-dads that make your car go.

The list below will give you an idea of what to be aware of and to watch out for that may indicate a potential repair issue. In addition to the other topics we have already discussed in the previous articles.

Important items to check every month 1. Inspect the battery, for any corrosion or leakage. If there is any, then replace the battery immediately.2. Open the hood and have a listen for any noises that just don’t sound quite right. After you have owned your car for a little while, you will become familiar with the normal sounds that your engine makes when the car is running as it should. If you do hear any unusual sounds, and cannot determine what is causing the noise, take the car in to be serviced.3. While the engine is running, check to be sure that each of the lights is working properly. Head lights, taillights, turn signals, back-up lights, and the dashboard (instrument panel) lights. If one or more is not working, check the wiring, and the bulbs, to determine if any need to be replaced.4. Turn on the windshield wipers, if they are not in good contact with the windshield; push them down just a touch. If the blades are damaged, replace them.5. Check the pressure level on all four tires, and the spare. If any are low, take them to a gas station, and fill them up.6. Also inspect the tread on the tires, if the wear seems uneven, you should consider having the tires rotated.7. Take a look under the car, if you see any spots on the ground, find out what is leaking. If you cannot repair the leak yourself, take the car in for an early check up.

Items you may want to have on hand It is a good idea to keep in your garage, a few of the more important necessities for minor repair issues. Just in case you need them immediately. There isn’t always a service station or a hardware store open when you need one.

Motor oil Brake fluid Transmission fluid Tire gauge Spark plugs Coolant and purified water Hoses, vacuum and basic Belts, for the important parts such as the clutch Filters, air, and oil Fuses, in a variety of sizes and for various needs Windshield washer fluid Bulbs for the lights

World of Warcraft Warrior Guide Secrets

by Shane Fenham

Ever wonderered what is good about playing a warrior in wow? There are plenty of world of warcraft warrior guides posted in forums where you are given tips mainly for PvP team play. Unless you have played warrior for some time these tips might be a bit to technical to understand. So here we shall have a more simple overview of what it’s like to play warrior either for solo play or group play. For this is a class which is the perfect choice for either mode of play.

Warriors are gear dependant, you will always be told this and it’s true. But this is really what makes the warrior great to play. More than any other class the warrior can practically use most of the items available in WoW except magical items like wands and relics. Once at level 45 they are the only class beside the Paladins who can wear plate which adds to their already awsome power and makes them look really fantastic.

The power they possess for taking and giving damage is such that warriors are also known as tanks when playing in groups. This is also a term spawned by the fact that while in group combat the warrior is the chief taker and giver of major damage and as such probably the most essential member to have on board to ensure success. Very rarely, if at all, there will be any instance run or raid where there in no tank and the warrior is the best tank in the business. One or two other classes can assume this role but they are not, shall we say, born to do it as well.

Like all other classes a warrior has talents and abilities divided up in three major trees which at end game can become their specialist areas:

Arms warriors choose this ability to have a large range of abilities in offensive and utility talents. Two handed weapons are best suited to this tree spec which are exponentially increased with warrior spells like “Mortal Strike” which further increase combat damage.

Fury Warriors: also known as the Rogues with plate as they share similar stats and weapon damage. They too fight with two handed weapons and use talents where one blow can literally turn and win them the fight. For fast warrior power levelling in WoW, this is the tree specialization you need to be on.

Protection Warrior - Very good warrior specialization for both offensive and defensive combat, often useful in group/raiding/instance runs. This is because these warriors are much more likely to last longer in combat as they rely on shields and sword mastery specifically. This is often the choice of warrior if you want to specialize as a Tank.

Each of these three tree talent are triggered by the stance the warrior uses: Protection, Beserker and Battle stance. Hence before reaching the more exciting end game you can sample each spec to see which one suits you best as you quest and grind.

Trouble shooting your Oriental Rug

by JD Theis

Oriental Rugs are a major investment. Some cost thousands of dollars and are the end result of processes that have taken thousands of years to learn. Generally, they come from far away places like China and Iran, and the people who craft them there take great pride in their workmanship. People often think that because Oriental Rugs are valuable they need to be pampered, but the very opposite is true. When an Oriental rug is dirty is can be washed unlike wall-to-wall carpeting that can be surfaced cleaned only.

They are a study lot partially because they are full of natural oils that keep many potential stains from penetrating and setting. Consider this. There have been reports in the Middle East of Oriental Rugs that are thrown into the street to be run over by cars and walked on by camels as part of the aging process that makes them have the appearance we are used to.

Still there are certain remedies that need to be practiced to ensure that life’s little accidents don’t become big problems for Oriental Rugs. Whether the spill is made up of wine, coffee, urine or paint, it needs to be looked after right away. Don’t wait and remove as much of it as possible. But be careful here. There is a minority of Oriental Rugs that contain a certain kind of dye that will run if you put water on it, but those rugs are in the minority. If the rug has gotten wet in the process of blotting out the stain, there’s no need to panic. Again, most of these rugs can stay wet for several days without being damaged. This is good to know for Oriental Rugs that have become sopping wet from plumbing problems or even a visit from the fire department.

When the stain is gone, finish drying the rug however you can. If you’ve got good weather you can dry it outside and if not, try elevating it inside the home and pointing a fan toward it. Remember too that many great imitation Oriental Rugs have been imported into Canada and the United States and some of the best of these are in the Oriental Weavers Sphinx Collection. Independent retailers have chosen them number one in style and color for several years now and the company has won numerous awards including America’s Magnificent Rug Award. Take a look at the Au Natural Collection for instance. These are some of the best rugs of their kind that you’ll see.

Creating New House Plants from Leaf Cuttings

by Thomas Fryd

You can propagate plants in multiple different ways, including leaf cuttings, seeds, etc. You can use leaf cuttings to propagate African violets and Gloxinia. Leaf cutting is when you cut the leaf where it joins the stem. You then put the leaf in a starting mixture to allow it to grow. Roots will begin to grow from the stem within a few weeks. Once the roots start to grow, you can transplant the new plant into regular potting soil.

The long, pointed foliage of the Sansevieria can also be propagated by leaf cuttings. It is done slightly differently though. You should cut the leaves into four-inch sections and set them in the starting mixture right side up. Roots will come out of the bottom where you cut.

The Rex Begonia requires a separate technique for leaf cutting propagation. You should cut across the thick veins on the underside of the leaves with a razor. The cut leaves should then be placed face up in he starting mixture. You need to make sure the leaf has good contact with the soil, so toothpicks or pins should be used.

Not only will creating new houseplants from leaf cuttings create new healthy plants, but it will actually be good for the plants that the cuttings come from as well. Pinching, pruning, and cutting back plants will grow more evenly. They will grow tall and uneven with a lack of foliage low on the plant if you do nothing to prune the plant. You want the plants to be full and even throughout the entire plant. They should look more like bushes than trees. You have to prune vines and trailers as well to avoid uneven growth.

Don’t worry about cutting off the center of a healthy young plant, or a branch that is just about to flower. It will be tough to convince yourself to do it because it goes against what you would naturally think, but it will help the plant in the long run and it is a part of growing African violets from leaves. You must prune them if they will grow into nice looking plants. You want to prune so the plant can use that energy to grow in other ways.

Growing an indoor garden yourself is extremely satisfying. Growing house plants yourself is very inexpensive and the time you spend working on it is very worthwhile and fun.
