Laboratory safety training is mainly to make the people working in a laboratory aware of the possible dangers that may threaten them. Knowing what might happen is already an important step in prevention. The people working in a laboratory have to understand the concept of safety and how it is important in their lives.

Training is an important aspect of safety, because safety training makes the workers more efficient and aware of their environment. Safety training helps the people working in the laboratory keep alert regarding their work environment and the various safety regulations and rules that are in effect not only in their laboratories, but also in their country.

After the safety training, the trainees should be able to identify the main risks present inside their laboratories, and why it is important to control those said risks. The trainees should be able to perform risk assessment for the various items and equipments in their laboratories, and the various control measures that they can implement for these.

The trainees should also be able to describe the different safety working practices in their laboratories, which should include hygiene, protective equipment, housekeeping, the use of various cupboards and safety cabinets, handling of gases and chemicals, labeling, and working alone. The trainees should be able to identify and practice safe transport, as well as proper disposal of hazardous material.

In case of accidents like spills, fires, and other possible risks, the trainees should be able to cite what they have to do and the possible responses they can do to minimize the damage of the accident to themselves and their environment. The trainees should to practice what they have learned in safety training, or else the training must not have been effective.
